The latest version of the .NET Framework source code has been uploaded and you can now successfully step into it. It is highly recommended you use the code with VS 2008 SP1 as it simplifies the configuration. Here is what you need to do:

1) In Visual Studio 2008, Click the “Tools” menu and select “Options”.

2) Go to the “Debugging” settings, clear “Enable Just My Code” and check “Enable .NET Framework source stepping” as shown below.


3)Now go to the “Symbols” settings under “Debugging” and specify your desired symbol cache location.


4) You are done!

  Been able to step through the .NET Framework source code will help us better understand what we are doing wrong and how to improve our existing code. Hopefully, the Mono community will also take advantage of this and fully port the .NET Framework class library to other platforms.
